As the end of the year fast approaches, don’t make the costly mistake of forgetting to file your property tax deductions. You need to file these if 1)You purchased a new home in 2012 2)You refinanced your home in 2012
Even if you did not buy or refinance, you must by law, verify your residency and eligibility by completing the pink form included with your tax bill if you did not turn it in last year.
You must file your deductions by December 31, 2012 for the2012 pay 2013 taxes
Marion County:
- You can file in person at the Marion County Assessor’s Office or the Marion County Auditor’s Office
- File online at http://www.indy.gov/auditor under homeowner service. You must file both the homestead deduction and mortgage deduction if they apply
- Call 317-327-4646 to request forms be mailed to you
Hamilton County:
- Again, if you have not already completed the pink form that was included in your April tax bill the last couple of years, you must do so to verify your residency and eligibility by completing the online form or by printing off the form, filling it in and either mailing it or delivering it to the Hamilton County Auditor’s Office
- You can file your deductions in person at the Hamilton County Auditor’s Office by completing the homestead deduction form and the mortgage deduction form or by mailing them in, or you can file them online by completing the online forms,the homestead deduction and mortgage deduction
- Call 317-776-9602 to have forms mailed to you
