Indianapolis – Republican Gov. Mitch Daniels told a group of angered taxpayers that he believed lawmakers were close to reaching a compromise on a property tax relief and reform plan.

Senate Tax Chairman Luke Kenley, R-Noblesville, said later Tuesday that Republican and Democratic negotiators “might be” close to reaching a deal.

House Speaker Patrick Bauer, D-South Bend, said progress toward a pact was being made “one step at a time.”
