Indianapolis – “Let the air out of the Hoosier Dome!”
With those words, the powerful fans were turned off and the roof of the RCA Dome began coming down – not with a bang, but with a whisper.
Eyewitness News had cameras inside. The deflation took about 35 minutes.
As the roof slowly disappeared from the Indianapolis skyline, city leaders shared their memories of Colts football, the men’s Final Four and other events like Motocross.
Mike Fox, who managed the Dome, proposed to his wife here the year it opened.
“Rhonda said yes, the Hoosiers went to the Final Four and I met Hulk Hogan at Wrestlemania,” said Fox.
“It has served us well. It has generated millions of customers for downtown,” said Indianapolis Downtown Inc’s Tamara Zahn.
From sports and music championships to international conventions, almost every Hoosier has a favorite time from the Dome’s 24-year history.
